Comparison of IOTA Simple Rules and Subjective Assessment for Differentiation of Ovarian Masses

چکیده
Preoperative differentiation between benign and malignant ovarian masses is very helpful for decisionmaking since the two entities usually need different therapeutic interventions. For instance benign or functional ovarian cyst need less aggressive approach, only close follow-up or laparoscopic surgery or simple pelvic surgery which can be performed by general practitioners, whereas malignant masses usually need available oncologists or referral to a tertiary center. Several sonographic methods are proposed to differentiate the two conditions, e.g. morphology scoring systems(Sassone et al., 1991; Lerner et al., 1994; Hafeez et al., 2013), or Doppler velocity indices (Tongsong et al, 2009; Alcazar et al., 2011; Guerriero et al., 2011), subjective assessment (Tongsong et al,, 2007), or IOTA (the International Ovarian Tumor Analysis) simple rules(Timmerman et al., 2008) which have been more popular recently. The IOTA simple rules for differentiation between benign and malignant ovarian masses were first proposed in

Background: To compare different ultrasound-based International Ovarian Tumour Analysis (IOTA) strategies and Risk of Malignancy Index (RMI) for ovarian cancer diagnosis using a meta-analysis approach of centre-specific data from IOTA 3. Methods: This prospective multicentre diagnostic accuracy study included 2403 patients with 1423 benign and 980 malignant adnexal masses from 2009 until 2012. ...
متن کاملValidation of the Performance of International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA) Methods in the Diagnosis of Early Stage Ovarian Cancer in a Non-Screening Population
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to assess and compare the performance of different ultrasound-based International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA) strategies and subjective assessment for the diagnosis of early stage ovarian malignancy. METHODS This is a secondary analysis of a prospective multicenter cross-sectional diagnostic accuracy study that included 1653 patients recruited at 18 cent...
متن کاملLimitations of three-dimensional power Doppler angiography in preoperative evaluation of ovarian tumors
BACKGROUND This study describes the accuracy of three-dimensional power Doppler (3D-PD) angiography as secondary method for differential diagnosis of ovarian tumors. METHOD Seventy-five women scheduled for surgical removal of adnexal masses were assessed by transvaginal ultrasound. Ovarian tumors were classified by IOTA simple rules and two three-dimensional blocks were recorded. In a second ...
متن کاملReliability of preoperative evaluation of postmenopausal ovarian tumors
BACKGROUND Preoperative evaluation of ovarian tumors is challenging. This study was undertaken to evaluate the performance of conventional two-dimensional (2D) ultrasound and CA125 in predicting malignant or benign nature of pelvic masses, and to investigate if three-dimensional power Doppler (3DPD) ultrasound provides any added value. Ninety-six postmenopausal and four perimenopausal women wit...

OBJECTIVES To prospectively assess the diagnostic performance of simple ultrasound rules to predict benignity/malignancy in an adnexal mass and to test the performance of the risk of malignancy index, two logistic regression models, and subjective assessment of ultrasonic findings by an experienced ultrasound examiner in adnexal masses for which the simple rules yield an inconclusive result. ...
